I really appreciate you taking the time to learn more about me. I can't wait to repay the favor and learn about you! Let me formally introduce myself: My name is Matt, and I have been a music lover since I could speak. With this love of music, I continue to work professionally as an actor, singer, musician, teacher, coach, and music director. I have a degree in Music from Plymouth State University. There, I built my degree and focused on vocal performance pedagogy, musical theatre performance, and music direction. Since graduating in 2018, I am lucky to say I have made a career in these three subjects, and I couldn't be happier!

While attending Plymouth State University, I was an active member in all things music. I worked alongside Dr. Daniel Perkins as his Choral Fellow for one year, and his office assistant for three. I was PSU's chapter elected ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) President, and also an active member in both NAfME (National Association of Music Educators) and SNATS (Student National Association of Teachers of Singing). Within these groups, I was lucky to be a student ambassador for many national and regional conferences. I focused hard on my voice lessons, and credit my love for teaching lessons to my PSU voice teacher, Brendan Buckley. At PSU, I had the opportunity to Assistant Music Direct three musicals, Music Direct one musical, and perform in multiple main stage shows and concert productions.
During my last semester of college, I applied and was hired as a Teaching Artist at the Gorham School of Music in Gorham, Maine. I began my post-collegiate voice and piano lesson teaching here, and really learned what it takes to run a private studio. With this knowledge, I started my own private studio, Scala Studios, in the Fall of 2018. Around the same time, I began Music Directing musicals around the Southern Maine area, most notably at Schoolhouse Arts Center and the Gorham Arts Alliance. From 2018 to 2023, I was the Music Director and co-creator of the updated theater program at the Gorham Arts Alliance. In 2021, I was elected Secretary of Maine NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing). That same year, I took on the position of Music Director for Camp O-AT-KA on Sebago Lake. In the Fall of 2023, I accepted a position at Windham Middle School as the Music Director for their Fall musicals. As of 2024, I am the Music Coordinator and part of the Media Management team at Schoolhouse Arts Center in Standish, ME.

After reading all of that, would you believe it if I told you I am still an active performer? The rumors are true! I love performing all around New England, though Maine is still my home base and where I perform most frequently. In 2019, I was one of 12 selected performers and participants to attend a NYC based masterclass, taught by Natalie Weiss. I have had the privilege of performing with multiple broadway stars, most notably being Tony Award winner Lindsay Mendez. I love performing in local community theaters, such as: Schoolhouse Arts Center, Biddeford City Theater, Portland Players, Lyric Music Theater, Windham Center Stage Theater, and others. In these houses, I have performed some of my favorite roles: Miles Tuck in Tuck Everlasting, Laurie Lawrence in Little Women, and Oscar Lindquist in Sweet Charity, to name a few. On top of all of that, I am also a member of a professional five-person a cappella group, Northern Pitch. We have won multiple competitions and continue to perform in and around Portland - our favorite being the Portland Tree Lighting! In 2020, we were selected to represent Maine at the National Moscow A Cappella Festival. However, this trip was unfortunately cancelled due to the pandemic.

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!
